Special Note from the Meet Director

For Coaches, Parents and Gymnasts who are competing on Friday (Level 3,4 and 5), you need to know some important information regarding parking at Ritchie Coliseum.  The University of Maryland is a huge college with over 50,000 students.  Parking when classes are in session is almost impossible.  In fact, almost all parking is by permit only before 4:00pm.   After 4:00pm and on Saturday and Sunday there is no problem.  But unfortunately during the first three sessions (Level 3, 4 and 5) you will get ticketed if parked in a permit only parking area.   There is very limited meter parking around campus (only a few 3 hour meters at Ritchie Coliseum).  There are some pay garages but they are a pretty good walk away.  There are a few options, however that are not too bad.

If you are staying at the host hotel, Holiday Inn-College Park:
They have a free shuttle van that will take you to and from the competition site.  You need to arrange ahead for it with the hotel lobby.  However, there is only one van and it will seat eleven passengers.  If you are staying in the hotel this is your best bet but please give yourself plenty of time.

If you are not staying at the host hotel or if you have a car and want to drive to the competition site:
The College Park Metro (subway) station is just a few minute drive from Ritchie Coliseum.  There is a big parking lot there for which you must pay.  There is free shuttle bus service from this station which is operated by the University of Maryland.  I've scanned a map and bus schedule and attached it to this email.  The time between buses is between 8 and 14 minutes depending on the exact time of day.  The bus ride will be no more than five minutes long.  You will get off at the 2nd stop on Paint Branch Pkwy and Greenhouse Road.  Once off the bus, you cross Paint Branch Parkway and walk one short block on Greenhouse Road and you will reach Rossborough Lane (behind the Police Station).  Once you reach Rossborough, if you cross the street you will be in the parking lot directly behind Ritchie Coliseum.  Again, please leave yourself plenty of time.

For the level 9 and 10 sessions, the gym opens at 3:50 for competing gymnasts.  You may want to just drop off your coaches and gymnasts at the gym - and wait nearby for 4:00 after which time all parking spaces become available.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but hopefully this will work smoothly for everyone.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or via my cell phone 240-893-8649.
